Dehydration may sound as a harmless health condition, but when in long terms, it can have serious consequences for your health. Dehydration occurs in case of vomiting, diarrhea, when using diuretics, sweating during hot weather, especially with prolonged hard work, and enough water intake. This is example of acute dehydration.

Chronic dehydration, on the other hand, occurs due to decreased water intake for a longer period. The second type of dehydration is more common and is associated with many health issues.

The water intake should be in balance with water loss in order to prevent dehydration.

Here Are 13 Symptoms Of Decreased Water Intake:

  1. Fatigue, Energy Loss

Dehydration leads to slowed down activity of the enzymes.

  1. Premature Aging

Almost 80% of the body of newborn baby consists of water. This amount gradually decreases with age.

  1. Excess Weight and Obesity

Dehydrated body often confuses the signs of thirst with the signs of hunger and therefore people eat even when they are not hungry instead of drinking water.

  1. High and Low Blood Pressure

Simply the volume of the blood is not enough to entirely fill the veins, arteries and capillaries.

  1. Cholesterol

In case of excess liquid drainage from the cells due to dehydration, the body produces more cholesterol in order to stop this process.

  1. Constipation

When digested food enters the colon, it is loaded with liquids necessary for proper bowel movements, and the wall of the colon absorbs it. In case of chronic dehydration, the colon absorbs too much water in order to distribute it to the other parts of the body.

  1. Digestive Disorders

Chronic dehydration leads to decreased secretion of digestive juices.

  1. Gastritis, Stomach Ulcers

The stomach produces a layer of mucus to protect the mucous membranes from damage caused by the acidic digestive fluid.

  1. Respiratory Troubles

The lining of the respiratory tract is slightly moist in order to protect the respiratory organs from the particles and substances inhaled from the air.

  1. Acid-Alkaline Imbalance

Dehydration is associated with slowed down enzymatic secretion which leads to acidification.

  1. Eczema

Human body needs enough liquid to sweat 20 to 24 ounces of water, which is the amount needed to neutralize the toxins and prevent skin irritation.

  1. Cystitis, Urinary Infections

If the toxins found in the urine are not properly neutralizes, they can damage the mucous membranes of the urinary tract.

  1. Rheumatism

Lack of water intake leads to increased concentration of toxins in the blood and the cellular fluids. The higher the concentration of toxins is, the more intense the pain is.
